Dynamite Headdy is an action game that was originally released on the Sega Genesis in 1994.
+ Faithful to the original and the developers managed to convey the essence of the game in a very respectable fashion.+ Difficulty curve rises more gently than the 16-bit version, leading to a consistently enjoyable experience throughout.
+ Balance of side-scrolling levels vs. boss battles is greatly evened, which gives each end of stage fight a proper pay-off.
+ Controls are tight, and the character sprites, idle animations and bright colours make great use of the console's power.
+ Predictably, the bosses aren't as impressive due to down-scaling, but they still look terrific and feature fun attack patterns.
- The switchable abilities (and chances to use them) are vastly reduced and there is quite a bit of missing content.
- There's little to tie the whole narrative together, and Headdy doesn't have any real personality or likeability factor.
