Danan: The Jungle Fighter is an action game that's exclusive to the Sega Master System.
+ Nice scenic variety with lush jungles, a swimming area reminiscent of Jungle Hunt (1982, Arcade), and even a battleship.
+ Boss battles are enjoyable and many foes look similar to those in Castlevania (1986, NES) or Ninja Gaiden (1988, NES).
+ Has an intriguing story, as well as cut-scenes to tie everything together, and the high-energy music complements the action.
- Danan's knife attack has a painfully short reach, and the awful collision detection can result in damage from a foot away.
- Special animal abilities have little practical use and the stage design doesn't really give you a reason to use the Eagle.
- Gameplay poses minimal challenge, and with only four levels on offer you'll likely be seeing the end credits rather quickly.
