Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Sega Game Gear review)

Developer: Sega CS
Publisher: Sega
Released: 1993

Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a platformer that was also released on the Sega Master System (1993).

+ Level design constantly switches things up and the stages where you can travel to the background layer are innovative.

+ Includes fun, engaging puzzles including some that see you multitasking to unlock doors while the screen auto-scrolls.

+ Ability to shrink Mickey down in size opens up lots of interesting gameplay sections that the level design caters well for.

+ Despite carrying the Mickey Mouse name, there's actually some challenge to the gameplay which gives it longevity.

+ The overworld map where you choose stages makes you feel like you're on an epic journey towards your destination.

- The zoomed-in action does cause issues with blind leaps of faith, and you can't always see what's ahead before jumping.

- A ridiculous amount of slowdown compared to the console version and the colours seem a lot more muted.
