Tails Adventure (Sega Game Gear review)

Developer: Aspect
Publisher: Sega
Released: 1995

Tails Adventure is an action-platformer that's exclusive to Sega's 8-bit handheld.

+ Level design is intricate and features lots of verticality, as well as sprawling areas with multiple exits.

+ Sprite work is spectacular with chunky character art to compliment the highly detailed backgrounds.

+ Bosses help to mix things up and the password system allows you to save your progress and keep your found items.

+ The items are fun to hunt down and figuring out how to use them adds a puzzle-like element.

- However, their usefulness is let-down by your ability to only possess four at a time which results in needless backtracking.

- Doesn't do a great job of guiding players, or giving them hints about where they should travel to next.

- Slowdown is often an issue and at times it feels as if button presses are either ignored or delayed.
