Jurassic Park (Sega Master System review)

Developer: Sega CS
Publisher: Sega
Released: 1993

Jurassic Park is an action-platformer that was also released on the Sega Game Gear in 1993.

+ Level design shines with cool set-pieces and weather-based hazards that heighten your character's sense of vulnerability.

+ Stages pack tons of ideas into the mix and feel like standalone adventures rather than rehashing previously used concepts.

+ Main character sprite is faithful to the 1993 movie of the same name, whereas the protagonist in the handheld port looks odd.

+ Being able to select from three weapons at any time gives you constant freedom to experiment with the best attack method.

+ Graphics are outstanding with excellent texture detail, large sprites and even parallax scrolling thrown in for good measure.

- Driving stages offer no vehicle control and instead you take part in a repetitive target practice on incoming dinosaurs.

- Bosses pose little challenge, and the ability to hang onto ceilings isn't explained which can initially lead to confusion.
