Legend of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Sega Master System review)

Developer: Aspect, Sega CS
Publisher: Tec Toy
Released: 1998

Legend of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is an action-platformer that was only released in Brazil.

+ Lots of interaction with the environment which immerses you into the world and breaks up the side-scrolling action.

+ Parallax scrolling in the Bridges of Destiny level is one of the most beautiful and technically advanced feats on the console.

+ Bosses are a joy to fight and there's some really interesting puzzle-like elements to their attack patterns.

+ Features many cut-scenes to help tie the story together and to keep you invested in the narrative of your adventure.

- Level design plays it safe and the stages are brief, so it doesn't live up the standards of the previous 8-bit Illusion games.

- Controls are slightly too sensitive and making ultra-precise corrections in mid-jump can push you wide of the intended mark.

- Weirdly, the action only takes up half of the playfield with a brief pause whenever the screen has to scroll vertically.
