Konami Hyper Soccer (NES review)

Developer: Konami
Publisher: Konami
Released: 1992

Konami Hyper Soccer is a sports game that was only released in PAL territories.

+ Alongside the Tournament mode, you can instantly select a Penalty Shoot-Out, or even a Demo match between the CPU.

+ Good amount of customisation options, including pre-match parameters where you can select upgrades for your team.

+ Easy to pick-up-and-play, but includes advanced techniques such as volleys and diving headers to deepen the gameplay.

+ Goal celebrations are excellent and the faux instant replays from different camera angles are very innovative for the time.

- No visual indication of your teammates' location, so skilled play in the passing game is negated in favour of guess work.

- Certain areas of the pitch can be exploited for almost guaranteed goals, which does cheapen things in two-player mode.

- Absence of a HUD / clock during matches is odd, as you can't accurately adjust your strategy based on the remaining time.
