Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III (NES review)

Developer: Ocean
Publisher: Ocean
Released: 1992

Parasol Stars: The Story of Bubble Bobble III is an action game that was first released on the PC Engine in 1991.

+ Level design is carefully constructed to challenge you in unique ways, which methodically improves your skills.

+ Includes both static and scrolling levels for variety and there's a large number of stages to keep you occupied.

+ Slowly introduces new enemy types to reignite the gameplay and to provide progression in each of its worlds.

+ Learning elemental attacks (such as creating water slides) is hugely satisfying for eliminating several enemies at once.

+ Ability to fall through gaps and appear at the top of the screen gives you a strategic advantage against the hordes of foes.

- Bosses can usually be defeated by simply spamming the attack button, and the music is too repetitive.

- While the game's length is respectable, there's no way to save your progress or skip ahead on the next play-through.
