Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Sega Game Gear review)

Developer: Tiertex, Lucasfilm Games
Publisher: U.S. Gold
Released: 1992

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is an action game that was released on the Sega Master System in 1990.

+ First three levels have decent stage design, with the train hopping scenario offering a nice obstacle course challenge.

+ Excellent graphics and animations, and unlike the SMS version this port offers a grace period when you take damage.

- Gameplay is excessively zoomed-in and you often can't see platforms above / below you, or prepare for incoming foes.

- Timer is very strict and the checkpoints have no consistency, as some appear in quick succession while others punish you.

- Stage 4 is unintuitive, as it introduces new gameplay mechanics that aren't taught or explained in previous levels.

- Stage 5 is a boring maze where everything looks the same, and ladders can only be climbed by jumping on them.

- Has noticeable slowdown versus the SMS game, the collision detection is shockingly bad, and there's no boss battles.
