Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Sega Master System review)

Developer: Tiertex, Lucasfilm Games
Publisher: U.S. Gold
Released: 1990

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is an action game that was later released on the Sega Game Gear in 1992.

+ First three levels have decent stage design, with the train hopping scenario offering a nice obstacle course challenge.

+ Graphics blow Ubisoft's NES port (1993) out of the water with detailed artwork and impressive walking animations.

- There's no grace period when you take damage and enemies can overlap your sprite for an almost instant cheap kill.

- Timer is very strict and the checkpoints have no consistency, as some appear in quick succession while others punish you.

- Stage 4 is unintuitive, as it suddenly becomes difficult to distinguish platforms from the background scenery.

- Stage 5 is a boring maze where everything looks the same, and ladders can only be climbed by jumping diagonally.

- Collision detection is shockingly bad, there's no boss battles, and the short end credits screen is not worth the hassle.
