Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (Sony PlayStation review)

Developer: Namco
Publisher: Namco
Released: 1998

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is a 2.5D platformer that was remade for the Nintendo Wii in 2008.

+ 2.5D perspective gives the side-scrolling gameplay a fresh twist, as you can often interact with the background.

+ Features light puzzle elements to keep things fresh, including fun, timing-based tasks towards the end of the game.

+ Lots of alternate paths to entice you into travelling off the beaten path, and trying to collect everything adds replayability.

+ Enemies can be used to reach higher platforms which presents interesting decisions as to whether you should attack first.

+ Art design is mesmerising and the pastel colours and gorgeous landscapes make for aesthetically pleasing backdrops.

+ The whimsical music creates a magical atmosphere that compliments the gameplay and enhances the entire presentation.

- The gibberish voice-overs are occasionally distorted and some of the SFX (e.g. explosions) are weak.
